Saquon Barkley, as expected, was not traded on Tuesday, and will get his wish of continuing his career in the only place he has ever known.

Given the obvious opportunity to acquire draft assets and rebuild the roster, Boomer and Gio wondered if Giants ownership stepped in to squash any thought of trading the lifelong Giant.

“I would really love to know those conversations between Joe Schoen, Brian Daboll, and John Mara,” Gio said. “I wonder if John Mara came in and squashed the whole thing.

“Saquon Barkley is not a guy they drafted, and they didn’t give him a contract extension…there’s no real reason for Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll to want to hang on to Saquon Barkley in this rebuild. It’s kind of silly, if you think about it.”

The Giants seemed to be set on not trading Barkley well before Tuesday’s deadline, so whoever ultimately made that decision, it was clear for weeks that a deal likely wouldn’t happen. But Gio could see ownership taking the lead in making sure Barkley stayed put.
