'Disgusted' Joe Benigno calls for Jets to hire Rex Ryan: 'What the hell is the difference?'

Joe Benigno joined Evan and Tiki for his weekly Jets spot on Monday afternoon, and he said it was time to do something drastic for a team that has now lost five straight games.

For Joe, he would bring back the last head coach to lead the team to postseason success.

“This calls for complete desperation…but obviously, Jeff Ulbrich cannot be the head coach of this team,” Joe said. “What I would do - and this is insane - but desperate times call for desperate measures. I would get Rex Ryan right now. Where are we going? What are we gonna be, 4-13? What the hell is the difference?

“He wants the job. Bring him in, put Ulbrich back at defensive coordinator, and let’s see what happens.”

Joe was in favor of moving on from Robert Saleh, but he says the timing of it was clearly a mistake, as the team looks even worse under Ulbrich. Still, despite how ugly things have been in recent weeks, Joe says the feeling around the team could be a lot different if Greg Zuerlein did his job.

“It can’t be overstated. I understand the team played like crap and the delay of game penalties…but this kicker is killing us,” Joe said. “How this guy was allowed to come back and kick for this game is beyond my imagination…I really think he’s cost us three games. If he kicked like he did last year, we are looking at least at a .500 team.”

It’s been decades and decades of pain and frustration for Joe, and at this point, he would try something as drastic as bringing back Ryan on the sidelines after years of being away from coaching, as he can’t see it making things any worse than they are now.

“I’m disgusted,” Joe said. “I’ve been through the wars too many years for this franchise. They’ll always be my team…but thank God I saw the one Super Bowl, because I’m never gonna see one again.”
