The Mets have lost their All-Star closer to the two-time defending champs.
According to multiple reports, and first reported by Will Sammon of The Athletic, Edwin Diaz has signed with the Dodgers, shortly after reports surfaced regarding LA’s serious interest in the righty. Diaz’s six-year tenure in Queens is now over.
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the deal is for three years and $69 million.
For the Dodgers, the rich get richer, as they now add a 31-year-old Diaz who pitched to a dominant 1.63 ERA in 2025, and even after a disastrous first season in Queens back in 2019, held a 2.93 career ERA as a Met. His career ERA through nine seasons in the majors is 2.82.
The news means the Mets will likely make the newly-acquired Devin Williams their closer. Williams struggled in that role with the Yankees last season before being demoted, and he settled in to a bridge role later in the season.
The Diaz news broke shortly after Kyle Schwarber signed a five-year deal to return to the Phillies, turning the heat up even more on the Mets to retain Pete Alonso, who is heading to the Winter Meetings to meet with other teams.
