With the Nets losing 17 out of 20, and the Mets still sidelined because of the MLB lockout, Evan could use something to look forward to in the sports world.
Sadly, Tuesday’s groundbreaking NFL news is only adding on to his preexisting sports misery.
Russell Wilson is headed to the Broncos, further bolstering an AFC that is stacked with young, star quarterbacks who will stand in the way of rebuilding teams for years to come, including Evan’s Jets.
“What I thought of after this deal was announced, was that eventually…you and I and everyone else who happens to root for the Jets, would like to rationalize how they will be able to compete for a Super Bowl,” Evan said on Tuesday’s show. “That’s the hope, that’s the goal of being a fan.
“When you look around the AFC…this is disgusting! This is loaded with awesome quarterbacks! If you’re a Giant fan, you can rationalize ‘I see an aging Aaron Rodgers, I see Matthew Stafford, Dak Prescott, Kyler Murray, and that’s it.’ When we look around, we see Patrick Mahomes, we see Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, for now we see Deshaun Watson.”
The AFC West alone is loaded with quarterback talent, now adding Wilson to a group of Herbert, Mahomes, and Derek Carr. The East, where Gang Green resides, has Allen standing in the way of Zach Wilson and the Jets, who now have another dynamic quarterback to compete with.
It all adds up to Evan seeing little hope on the horizon for the long-suffering Jets.
“Bro, it’s exciting NFL news, but selfishly, as a Jet fan, the road to that dream of winning a Super Bowl, it just gets more complicated,” Evan said.
Craig was more realistic about New York’s outlook in the short term, regardless of the trade, but also acknowledged that its bad news for fellow Jets fans.
“We got screwed today, if you want to look at it that way,” Craig said. “It made it harder for the Jets to win, but we’re so far away.”
