Evan listened to Leonard Williams’ introductory press conference with the Seahawks on Thursday, where he told reporters that Joe Schoen asked him if he wanted to be traded to the Seahawks, noting Williams had friends in that locker room.
Williams expressed an appreciation for Schoen due to that consideration, but Evan said it presents a potential problem for the Giants, that their general manager may be too friendly with his players.
“I think he’s too nice,” Evan said. “Joe Schoen was asking Leonard, ‘You cool if I trade you to Seattle?’
“That’s the business! You’re not supposed to ask the player what you want! This isn’t free agency, this is a trade…Either Joe Schoen is lying, or he is way too nice and that hurts your job. If Leonard Williams says no, you’re supposed to trade him anyway, right?”
Tiki agrees that it seemed as if Schoen was asking his player for permission to trade him, but as a former player, he appreciated the transparency.
“It sounds like he was asking Leonard Williams if he wanted to be traded,” Tiki said.
