Evan isn’t buying David Stearns comments for a second when it comes to “casting a wide net” in their search for Buck Showalter’s replacement.

Evan is convinced the next Mets manager has already been selected.

“Craig Counsell is gonna be the manager,” Evan said. “Could we just stop beating around the bush here? Craig Counsell is going to manage the New York Mets.

“He is the No. 1 choice. He should be the No. 1 choice. He has a great resume in Milwaukee for the nine years he’s been there, and has a connection to David Stearns. I would be very, very surprised.”

Counsell has a Brewers team to manage in the Wild Card Series and beyond, should they advance, but not long after Milwaukee’s playoff run ends, Evan expects him to be en route to Queens.

“Turned down an extension, and said as recently as today, ‘I’m not gonna not listen to teams that are interested,’” Evan said. “Basically, he’s flirting with you, and by you, I mean the Mets.”
