Evan rips Woody Johnson, says Jets will never win with owner behaving like this

After reading the bombshell report by The Athletic of the meddling of Woody Johnson, Evan Roberts felt about as low as he ever has during his Jets fandom.

That’s saying something.

But, as Evan said to open Wednesday’s show, no matter how tortured the history is for Gang Green, nothing is worse than having an owner who tries to run the show, which is what Johnson appears to be doing right now.

“Here’s the ultimate problem...if you’re hands-on like this, like what was described of Woody Johnson, I can promise you that you’ll win nothing,” Evan said. “You’re in a cycle of hell.

“It’s scarier because they don’t get fired. Woody Johnson can do whatever he wants with his toy that is the New York Jets. The ultimate sign that you’re gonna win nothing is when you have an owner who is as handsy as that.”

So, after reading reports of Johnson nixing potential trades for wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and pushing for acquisitions like Mike Williams and Tyron Smith, and even pushing for Aaron Rodgers to be benched in the first month of the season, Evan couldn’t help but imagine that he was living a football nightmare, as nothing gets worse than an owner ignoring the input of actual football minds and running the ship himself.

“Your football team couldn’t possibly be run by an owner who knows less football than what’s in my thumb right now,” Evan said.

“It’s not possible that the owner of the team started lecturing football lifers...there’s no way Woody Johnson, who is an expert on nothing other than being a billionaire, actually lectured them on benching a Hall of Fame quarterback three weeks into a season.”

Unfortunately, at least according to The Athletic, that is the reality, and it has led to yet another Jets makeover after a disastrous season is already seemingly over.
