The Garrett Wilson trade demand drama can be put to rest for now.
Mainly because the Jets star wide receiver made it clear that he doesn't want to be dealt.
Wilson spoke with reporters on Wednesday and expressed his desire to remain with the franchise that drafted him, even if he is frustrated with his lack of involvement in the offense.
"Yeah, I want to be here, man," Wilson said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. "I want to win games and that's the one thing we've been missing on here. I love it here. Do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest, but I'm hopeful."
A candid Wilson reiterated what he has for years, which is his desire to see things through in New York and be a pillar of a team that finally turns things around for a franchise that once again appears to be going nowhere this season. Given Darren Mougey's willingness to part with other young talent for top draft capital (see Sauce Gardner), the Jets' seemingly lost season had fired up the trade rumor mill, with the focus on Wilson, and whether or not he would want to be shipped elsewhere and have a better chance to win during his prime, and if Mougey would have the appetite to grant such a wish.
Those questions can seemingly be silenced for the time being, though time will tell if 10 more weeks of losing and lack of targets changes Wilson's tune in the offseason. The 26-year-old was seen shouting on the sidelines after a failed series on offense during Sunday's loss to the winless Dolphins, and some speculated if he was screaming at his quarterback, Geno Smith. Wilson later said he was not, and many assumed his frustration was geared towards passing game coordinator Seth Ryan. Regardless, Wilson was not happy with the play calling in the red zone, but stressed that his anger is not rooted in a desire to be traded.
"That's my main frustration that may show on the TV or something like that. But I don't want it to ever be misconstrued. This all comes from a place in my heart of wanting to win," Wilson said. "I'm biased, but it also comes from experience where I played my part in that.
"It's frustrating, for sure, because I want to have an impact and I want to help the team. But really, I just want to help the team, man."
