The Rangers heard some boos from their own fans during Monday’s game four loss to the Devils at Madison Square Garden, and after the game, they heard it from their head coach.
Gerard Gallant called out his players after a second straight loss, using strong words like “lazy” to describe his team’s play after dropping two straight at Madison Square Garden.
“Not good enough. Not even close to good enough,” Gallant said. “We didn’t show up. We didn’t play hard enough. We didn’t compete hard enough. All we did was yap at the linesmen for getting thrown out of the faceoffs. Lot of bad things tonight.
“Tonight was a close hockey game, but we didn’t show up. We didn’t play hard enough. We didn’t compete hard enough. All we did was yap at the linesmen for getting thrown out of face-offs. A lot of bad things tonight.”
Gallant didn’t call any of his players out by name, but he did emphatically agree that the Rangers’ star players did not make nearly enough of an impact, but that was just the start of the Blueshirts’ problems.
“Tonight, weak-side winger was a little bit lazy, staying on the other side of the ice to watch the play instead of supporting it,” Gallant said. “How many times did you see us whipping pucks across and them picking them off in the middle? Just the old recipe when you look like you’re tired or lazy, that’s what happens.”
