Gerrit Cole cemented his Cy Young case on Wednesday in emphatic fashion, tossing a complete game shutout in Toronto in his final start of the season.
Cole became the first Yankee in a decade to log two shutouts in one season, the first to do it since Ivan Nova in 2013.
But the other big story of the night was the continued power display from Aaron Judge, as he launched his 36th and 37th home runs of the season in what was just his 103rd game.
Asked about Judge’s torrid stretch after the game, Cole lamented the toe injury that sidelined Judge for nearly two months.
“Can we get some padding in Dodger Stadium?” Cole said. “It’s just been really special to watch him go about his business.”
Judge injured his toe when he crashed into the outfield wall at Dodger Stadium, his toe smashing into the concrete base in right field on what was an incredible running catch on June 2. He wouldn’t play another game until July 28.
