The Raiders cleaned house in the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday, firing head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler after falling to 3-5 on the season.
Linebackers coach, and former Giant, Antonio Pierce is taking over as interim head coach, and will meet his former team immediately, as the Giants face the Raiders on Sunday.
Gio says Big Blue is now in a terrible spot, if NFL history repeats itself.
“How many times have we seen a team fire an unpopular heads coach, and the next game, with the interim head coach, come out and play inspired football?” Gio said. “It doesn’t usually sustain, but there’s an immediate lift.”
Gio has no idea how Pierce will be as a head coach, but he has seen time and again an NFL team play with more energy and emotion following a coaching change, and Sunday seems to be setting up for a similar narrative.
“I would much rather face that mess, with Josh McDaniels as the head coach and Davante Adams bitching on the sideline,” Gio said. “It’s a bad situation for the Giants, not that it already hasn’t been a bad situation.”
