Kadarius Toney out for Giants Sunday after tweaking other hamstring

Kadarius Toney was one of five players that did not travel to London, and he will obviously not play against the Packers Sunday because of a hamstring issue…with his other hammy?

Indeed, head coach Brian Daboll told the media Thursday morning that in trying to ramp up from his previous hamstring and was on track to be able to play, but “tweaked” his other hammy in practice on Thursday, and ended up not on the flight.

“I feel bad for him,” Daboll said from London. "He was running around, he was getting a lot better and unfortunately tweaked it a little bit. Get him treatment and as ready as we can.’’

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the hammy issue Toney was dealing with currently was different than the one that plagues him this summer, so that marks three different hamstring injuries, affecting both legs, in the span of a few months – leading some to wonder if putting Toney on IR and giving him a month off without trying to ramp up would be a prudent idea.

“I think [general manager] Joe [Schoen] and I talk about a lot of things, we revisit things each week,’’ Daboll said.

An IR stint would, however, prove something Daboll said about his wide receiver injuries Wednesday:

“I would say that our philosophy is not to rush anybody back, to make sure the player feels comfortable where they're at in their mind and the mental spot. But also, physically make sure that they're ready to go and can go out there and do the things we need them to do to be a successful part of whether it's offense, defense or the kicking game. I think that's important. As everybody knows, this is a tough sport to play. Again, you're going to have nicks and bruises and things like that, but the health and the safety of our guys are important to us.”

Kenny Golladay (knee) also didn’t make the trip, Wan’Dale Robinson (knee) did not practice Friday and is doubtful, and Richie James (ankle) is banged up, so Big Blue could be down to Darius Slayton, David Sills, and potentially one or two of the three wideouts on their practice squad in London – which, much like needing Davis Webb this week, Daboll would be comfortable with.

“We have three guys on the practice squad that we like,” Daboll said Monday. “We brought Marcus (Johnson) up. (Makai) Polk and (Kalil) Pimpleton have done a good job; we'll continue to work with those guys.”

One player who won’t be coming in for Big Blue anytime soon is Cole Beasley, who knows Daboll’s system from Buffalo but announced his retirement this week after playing one game with the Bucs last month.

“He is a great guy,” Daboll said of Beasley. “Very productive in our system the last few years and I wish him the best of luck. Him, his family, his children, he's a great person.”
