The Giants defense, which has looked formidable in recent weeks, was dealt a major blow on Wednesday, as Brian Daboll told reporters that Kayvon Thibodeaux underwent wrist surgery and is “week to week.”
The former top-five draft pick suffered a fractured scaphoid bone and underwent surgery Wednesday morning, almost certainly taking him out of Sunday’s game against the Bengals.
“I’m not gonna give you a timeline or anything like that,” Daboll said. “I’m just gonna say it’s week to week. I’m encouraged by what I’ve heard, but obviously you never know.”
Thibodeaux has been productive with Big Blue’s improved defense so far this season, helping New York lead the league with 22.0 sacks through five games, as well as leading the NFL in havoc rate. On the season so far, Thibodeaux has 12 tackles and two sacks, and his presence helps free up the likes of Brian Burns and Dexter Lawrence to get to the quarterback.
In other Giants injury news, Malik Nabers is “feeling better” and progressing, but is still in concussion protocol and remains “day to day.”
