Graham Gano teased that it would be revealed on Tuesday what the price was for Kayvon Thibodeaux to get his jersey No. 5, only revealing that it would be in the form of a charitable donation.

The Giants announced the exact terms of the donation on Tuesday, as the new Big Blue pass rusher will donate $50,000 to Puppies Behind Bars, which provides service dogs for wounded war veterans and first responders.

Gano, who knew Thibodeaux would be looking to get his No. 5 considering he wore it in college with Oregon, said the idea of a donation to Puppies Behind Bars came from he and his wife, Brittany, when they saw a soldier presented with a service dog during a break in the action at a Giants home game.

“When he said he was willing to give to that, I can be No. 9 and maybe in 10-15 years when he retires and I'm still kicking, I can get No. 5 back," Gano joked to Dan Salomone of Giants.com. "The opportunity to give to something is exciting, and the number is obviously very special to Kayvon. While it is special to me as well, there's a whole lot of meaning in that No. 5 to him. I just wanted to be a good teammate and also be able to support others throughout the whole process.”

Gano will switch back to No. 9, which he wore with the Panthers when he was a Pro Bowl kicker. He said it wasn’t easy to part with No. 5, but the cause Thibodeaux would be donating to made it well worth it.
