Giants place Andrew Thomas, C.J. Board on injured reserve

Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas will miss at least the next three games, as the team placed him on injured reserve Tuesday due to an ankle injury and a foot injury on opposite legs.

Thomas to IR was one of many moves the Giants made to their active roster and practice squad on Tuesday. Wide receiver CJ Board, who has a broken arm that will likely cost him the rest of the season, was also placed on IR, and the Giants filled their roster spots by elevating wide receiver Dante Pettis and tackle Korey Cunningham from the practice squad to the active roster.

Hope is that Thomas will be able to return for the Nov. 22 Monday night game against Tampa Bay, as he must miss the games against Carolina, Kansas City, and Las Vegas ahead of Week 10’s bye.

On the practice squad, the Giants officially signed linebacker Benardrick McKinney and also added wide receiver Travis Toivonen and tackle Derrick Kelly, and terminated the contracts of tight end Jake Hausmann and guard Cole Banwart.

Cunningham had been elevated to the active roster from the practice squad for each of the last two games, playing a handful of snaps. He was a seventh-round pick of the Cardinals in 2018 and started six games at left tackle, and spent the last two seasons in New England, appearing in 12 games.

Pettis, who was claimed off waivers from San Francisco last November, was elevated from the PS this week and caught five passes for 48 yards against the Rams. He played two games last season as well, catching four passes for 76 yards late in the season.

McKinney spent six seasons in Houston before being dealt to Miami last offseason, and being released by the Dolphins at the end of camp. He has recorded 525 tackles (312 solo) and 11.5 sacks in the regular season and 44 tackles (23 solo) in the playoffs on his career.

Toivonen was an undrafted rookie free agent signee of the Seahawks this spring but was released at the end of camp. As a collegian, he caught 139 passes for 1,719 yards and 13 touchdowns in 43 games at North Dakota.

Kelly spent the last two seasons with the Saints, having signed as a rookie free agent in 2019. He was on the practice squad in 2019 and saw limited action in 2020. He was on the Saints’ practice squads again this year before being cut last week.
