The Giants are reportedly releasing running back Najee Harris, according to Art Stapleton of The Record.
The move continues to shake up a running back room that has been in flux since quarterback Jaxson Dart went down with a knee injury in the opening drive of New York's Week 2 loss against the Rams. The team's rushing attack has been essentially nonexistent since then, averaging less than three yards per carry.
John Harbaugh challenged one of his running backs to step up and become the lead back, but nobody in the room appeared to be taking that role by the horns. Now, the crowded room gets thinner.
Harris logged 31 carries this season and compiled 99 yards on the ground. He had just four carries in Sunday's loss to the Saints as the starter, though that was four more than Cam Skattebo after his costly fumble in overtime against Washington a week prior.
Harris sounded off after Sunday's loss, lamenting the ability to "get into a rhythm" with a shared workload. Now, that workload will be shared by Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Devin Singletary.
