The Giants got good news on injured edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux on Monday, but not so much on linebacker Darrian Beavers: he suffered a torn left ACL in Sunday’s win over Cincinnati, and will miss the entire season.
Beavers was hurt making a tackle in the third quarter, with his left leg appearing to get caught in the turf as he engaged with Cincinnati’s running back:
Beavers was a sixth-round pick out of Cincinnati and was impressing in camp, moving up to second behind Tae Crowder on the Giants’ depth chart at middle linebacker. He was a beast in his final season at Cincinnati, notching 98 tackles (11 for loss), four sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
Now, however, Beavers is the sixth of the Giants’ 11-member draft class to suffer a significant injury this preseason and the second to be lost for the year, as fifth-round pick Marcus McKethan was also lost for the season with a torn ACL suffered earlier this month.
Thibodeaux suffered a sprained MCL in Sunday’s game and is expected to miss three-to-four weeks, while lineman Joshua Ezuedu also left that game with an undisclosed injury as well. The Giants are also missing defensive backs Cor’Dale Flott (groin) and Dane Belton (collarbone), who were hurt earlier in camp, and even tight end Daniel Bellinger began camp on the PUP list.
