As the Jets move forward without Aaron Rodgers, Gio is still convinced the team’s stacked roster will be wasted with Zach Wilson at quarterback, and continues to think through potential options to replace Wilson as the starter.

One idea was intriguing to him, coming out of Minnesota and his own Vikings squad that he believes could be out of the running by the trade deadline.

“They could start out the season 0-2….and their schedule is very difficult,” Gio said. “What happens at the trade deadline, when Kirk Cousins, who is on an expiring contract, is on a team that is 1-6?”

Boomer noted Cousins’ dead cap hit, while Gio noted Cousins’ no-trade clause. But Cousins could want to come to a team with a defense like he’s never had before, and with a chance to win. Plus, after watching Netflix’s “Quarterback,” Gio is convinced Cousins would have no problem putting in the work necessary to learn Nathaniel Hackett’s system in a hurry.

“Another thing we learned is how much work Kirk Cousins puts in,” Gio said. “He is a guy you wouldn’t have to worry about…he would work his ass off to learn this offense, more than anyone in the league.”
