Gio: Could Saquon Barkley's continued stardom impact John Mara's decision on Giants regime?

As Saquon Barkley ran his way to another huge game for the Eagles, fans in Philadelphia chanted “Thank you Giants!” as their new star running back talked with the Amazon postgame crew following another divisional victory.

Barkley, who rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns against the Commanders, gave fans another opportunity to troll Big Blue with another big game in primetime, and it has seemingly become a weekly occurrence that the Giants are mocked for letting Barkley go, only to watch him ball out for a hated rival.

Gio wonders how John Mara is handling it, given the fact that he was on camera during HBO’s Hard Knocks expressing his reluctance to letting Barkley go, and that he wouldn’t be able to sleep if the face of the Giants franchise wound up in Philadelphia.

“I know we have gone over this over and over again, but I won’t change my opinion on the Giants not giving Saquon Barkley a long-term deal because of what’s going on now,” Gio said, still supporting the decision by Joe Schoen and company. “However, it does look bad, and the owner does not like when the Giants look bad...will he be able to get through the season being embarrassed like this and hang on to the guys in charge of the organization right now? I hope he does.”

Mara didn’t hide his reluctance to letting Barkley walk, and even if it was the right decision, watching the running back star for a divisional rival while the Giants fall to 2-8 can’t make ownership happy, but Boomer says there should be no overreactions less than one season into Barkley’s contract.

“Let’s see what Saquon Barkley’s entire career looks like with the Eagles,” Boomer said. “Saquon no doubt is having the time of his life right now. He has never played this well.

“He’s on a much better team. He has a better quarterback, legitimate wide receivers that put fear in the defense, and he’s taking advantage of it.”
