Gio: David Stearns needs to give Mets roster a 'full-blown colon cleanse,' get rid of current core
Both Boomer and Gio agree that the Mets need to hold another fire sale at the trade deadline, and massively overhaul the roster to move forward with a dramatic rebuild under David Stearns.
Boomer would be fine with the team holding onto some core pieces like Brandon Nimmo, but Gio wants to completely wipe out the roster and start anew.
"This group here, this core here and what we're watching now, will be gone in the offseason or the trade deadline," Gio said. "This will be a full-blown colon cleanse of the organization by David Stearns, and it better be. If it's not, then what are we doing here?"
Boomer pointed to some bad contracts that could be hard to shed, like Francisco Lindor and his $341 million deal. But Gio wants Stearns to try and find a way, and take a wrecking ball to the current group that continues to slide in the standings.
"I feel like there's a lot of Lindor truthers out there who will say that he's not as bad as the eye test shows," Gio said. "But you cannot defend his offensive production this year. And you're thinking of all the years that he has left on the contract. And when he was asked what he misses most about Cleveland, he said 'winning.'"
