Gio: 'Dodgers got played' by paying Shohei Ohtani $700 million

Shohei Ohtani signed the richest contract in MLB history with a 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers, which Boomer says will still make the franchise money thanks to Ohtani's market value, even if the price tag seems ludicrous.

"Seven hundred million? They're doing it because they can make money off of him," Boomer said. They're not doing it to lose money, I can tell you that.

"He's a smart guy. He knows what he's doing. The marketing for Shohei Ohtani on the west coast and across the Pacific Ocean going into Japan and Southeast Asia is going to be enormous…but seven hundred million is a little bit ridiculous."

Gio can't believe Ohtani got that level of payday, regardless of the fact that there is no other player like him.

"I understand he's doing things we've never seen," Gio said. "He's a great hitter, a great pitcher, and the MVP, but he's also a guy coming off Tommy John surgery who has never been on a team that has won a damn thing.

"You're telling me they couldn't have gotten Shohei Ohtani for $600 million? I think the Dodgers got played here."
