The Rangers are onto the ALDS, but Gio couldn’t believe that Max Scherzer was smack in the middle of their clubhouse celebration after sweeping the Rays in the Wild Card Series.
“What a loser,” Gio said. “Did you see the pictures of him celebrating with his shirt off with the Rangers in the clubhouse? What did you do to contribute to that team’s success. Nothing.
“You made a handful of starts there, you’re done, and you got the goggles on and the shirt off getting champagne squirt all over you? What?”
Scherzer isn’t done quite yet, as he threw another bullpen session earlier this week and hopes to be available for the ALDS, but he has been out since mid-September with a teres major strain after making just eight starts following a trade from the Mets.
So, Scherzer will try to be a factor in the playoffs, but until then, Gio doesn’t want to see him celebrating a win he didn’t contribute to on the mound.
“If I’m him, I just stand back with my arms crossed, smile on my face, happy for those guys,” Scherzer said. “You don’t get in the middle of that celebration. You did nothing for that team.”
