Gio told Boomer on Monday that hitting coaches don’t make a difference, and are never remembered in baseball history, but he still finds the Yankees new hire to be a very intriguing one.
“I still believe hitting coaches really don’t matter much,” Gio said. “But I will say, Sean Casey being the new hitting coach is really interesting to me, and I think a great idea.”
Gio has working experience with Casey from his playing days, and he is more than confident that the former All-Star’s presence in the Yankee clubhouse will provide a much-needed morale and energy boost.
“I met him numerous times,” Gio said. “This is not hyperbole or over the top…he is one of those guys, when he walks into a room, the whole vibe changes. It’s amazing. He’s got this personality that is so infectious and so positive, you leave every interaction with him feeling better than you did before he walked into the room.
“Having Sean Casey in any capacity is a good thing.”
