On a day where the Yankees will play a doubleheader after seeing Wednesday’s game postponed due to poor air quality, we got a little pinstriped humor from two of New Jersey’s leaders during a morning press conference about air quality.

As Gov. Phil Murphy handed over the mic to State Police Deputy Superintendent Colonel Sean Kilcomons, dong the conference in place of his higher-ups, Kilcomons remarked, “I feel like the guy who pinch-ran for Derek Jeter in his final game, stepping up in place of the Colonel.”

Well, when the Deputy Finished his portion, Gov. Murphy took back the mic to reveal some personal past news and remember Jeter’s farewell:

“I remember that game in Boston, I was there – and I’ll always remember that the pinch-runner for Jeter was Brian McCann, the slowest Yankee there was,” Murphy smiled. “Trust me, you’re no Brian McCann, you are a star.”

A little Yankees levity even on a hazy day in the Tri-State area!
