A former Yankees hyped prospect will now be playing ball in the Mexican League.

As announced on MiLB.com, Greg Bird has signed with Charros de Jalisco, marking the latest overseas league the 31-year-old has joined since his MLB career flatlined. Bird’s last stop was in Australia, and also spent time playing in Quebec.

A former fifth-round pick by the Yankees in 2011, Bird was considered to be arguably the most anticipated prospect among the Baby Bombers wave, and he showed plenty of promise after hitting 11 home runs in 178 plate appearances after making his debut in 2015. But a shoulder injury ended his 2016 season before it began, and it was just the first of a slew of injuries that would derail his career.

The Yankees designated Bird for assignment after the 2019 season, and he bounced around in the minor leagues in the years to come, even returning to the Yankees system. Now, he is on another quest to prove that he is healthy and worthy of another shot.
