C-Mac has long listed the reasons why a Blake Snell contract doesn’t make sense for the Yankees, but if the reports are true, and the reigning NL Cy Young winner is being aggressively pursued by the Astros, then it’s time for Hal Steinbrenner to step in.
“If this owner, in an all-in year…allows the tax of signing Snell to be difference between pitching for you and pitching for your bitter rival, that’s hard to take,” C-Mac said. “It will be really hard to defend the Yankees, and even Brian Cashman.
“If they get the vibe that he’s about to sign with the Astros, you can’t let it happen. There has to be some sort of inherent level of competition in your soul if you are Hal Steinbrenner.”
The Astros have consistently bounced the Yanks from the playoffs in the Aaron Judge era, having beaten them in the ALCS three times since 2017. The Bombers simply cannot allow the top remaining pitcher on the free agent market go to one of their biggest competitors, especially after the Yanks just lost their ace in Gerrit Cole for the next couple of months.
“Watching this Houston team be the one thing that has kept the Yankees from getting back to the World Series multiple times…if you don’t have some sort of inert hatred for that team…then that’ll be the first time I say ‘You’re not like your father,’” C-Mac said.
