C-Mac on how Yankees will approach 2024 after 'devastating' Jasson Dominguez injury

The Yankees were dealt a crushing injury blow on Sunday when Aaron Boone told reporters that Jasson Dominguez suffered a torn UCL, and will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Dominguez and his red-hot start now comes to a screeching halt, and the 20-year-old will now miss the start of the 2024 season.

Where does that leave the Yankees? C-Mac says it drastically alters the plan heading into next year.

“It probably changes their plans for the offseason…it’s just so frustrating,” C-Mac said. “I thought they were banking on him being the starting center fielder next season.
I don’t know if you can do that now, and just allow them to have a stopgap, like they’ve done at shortstop for the last five years, and you know how that’s gone? Not that well.”

The Yankees appeared to have two locks for the outfield next season in Dominguez and Aaron Judge, but with the parity of Tommy John surgeries in terms of recovery, there is no telling when Dominguez will feel back to his normal self. The Yanks will have to seek an alternative, while in the here and now, the reasons to watch a team not going to the playoffs have evaporated.

“It’s devastating news,” C-Mac said. “It was out of left field. It’s just so bizarre. It even robs you of the last month of watching the kids play and watching Jasson Dominguez and having a reason to even watch the Yankees down the stretch.”
