Islanders captain Anders Lee to miss rest of season with torn ACL

The Islanders have been rolling, winners of nine of their last 10 games, but if they want to keep that hot streak going, they'll have to do so without their team captain.

Anders Lee, who was sidelined with a lower body injury in a win against the Devils last week, will miss the rest of the season due to ACL surgery, team president Lou Lamoriello told reporters on Wednesday.

Per Lamoriello, Lee will undergo surgery this week and will be ready for the start of next season.

The captain went down in last Thursday night's win over New Jersey when he and Pavel Zacha got tangled, resulting in Lee falling to the ice and crawling in pain. He was helped off and ruled out for the rest of the game.

The next day, the team announced that Lee was out indefinitely.

Lee recorded an assist in that 5-3 win over the Devils, which at the time was the team's seventh win in a row. He ends his season with 12 goals and seven assists over 27 games.

The Islanders placed Lee on long-term injured reserve on Monday, so if they bring in another player to replace Lee, they will be able to go over the salary cap by the amount of Lee's cap hit of $7 million to do so.
