Jalen Brunson's MVP performance in the NBA Finals is somehow even more impressive after recent reports.
According to SNY NBA insider Ian Begley, the Knicks captain will be recovering for at least the next two months after undergoing surgery to repair an injury to his " forearm/wrist area." Per Begley, Brunson played through discomfort during New York's run to its first championship in 53 years. Brunson was at the heart of that run, winning conference finals and NBA Finals MVP and putting a stamp on one of the great individual playoff runs in franchise history by dropping 45 points on the road in the clinching game five.
According to Knicks Fan TV, the procedure is scheduled for Tuesday. Multiple reports say that the injury was to his left wrist, meaning he was the top scoring option on a championship team despite his shooting hand being impacted by injury.
Training camp opens at the end of September, meaning Brunson would have a couple weeks of cushion before that time if he needs a full two months to recover from surgery. Based on that timeline, his availability for the start of next season should not be impacted.
Brunson had already reached legendary status in New York thanks to his playoff heroics, but now, with the knowledge that it was all accomplished with an injury that required surgery, his legend has reached new heights.
Turns out, the Knicks captain's playoff heroics are somehow even more impressive than initially thought.
