Jerry: Gerrit Cole is 'most underappreciated superstar we've seen in a long time'

The only bright spot in the Yankees’ loss to the lowly Rockies on Sunday was the continued brilliance of Gerrit Cole, who allowed just one run in six innings of work while logging 11 strikeouts, only for the bullpen to blow the game twice.

Cole, the American League’s starting pitcher in last week’s All-Star Game, leads the league in innings pitched and starts, and has his ERA down to 2.78 on the season.

Jerry Recco says the appreciation for Cole needs to be a lot louder than it currently is among the Yankee fanbase.

“He’s probably the most under-appreciated superstar we’ve seen in a very long time,” Jerry said. “I feel like he doesn’t get his due for how consistent, available, and productive he’s been.”

Gio agrees that Cole doesn’t get his proper due, but believes the appreciation would be louder if the rest of the team wasn’t deserving of so much criticism at the moment. Still, Cole and his $324 million contract have been everything the Yankees could have hoped for up to this point.

“I agree, but I think it’s because we are expecting him to be great because of the money that he got,” Gio said. “And there’s a lot of people to complain about.”
