The Jets were a mess on Sunday, getting blown out 40-14 against the rival Bills in a game where Aaron Rodgers took a seat for the fourth quarter in a game where New York was penalized 16 times for a whopping 120 yards.
The penalties have been a running theme this season, especially since Jeff Ulbrich took over as interim head coach. That will need to be addressed with the team’s next hire, and Jerry Recco says the Jets should hire one of three potential candidates in the offseason.
“To me, there’s three guys,” Jerry said. “It’s [Jon] Gruden, it’s [Brian] Flores, and it’s [Mike] Vrabel. That’s my short list.
“I don’t want to go the young coordinator route. I want to do what I think feels right. With a team that does have talent and can win relatively quickly, I want someone who knows what they’re doing in that spot. Those are the three guys.”
The Jets are reportedly interviewing former Commanders head coach Ron Rivera first, which would be a veteran that would satisfy what Jerry wants to see in their next head coach. But Jerry would prefer one of those three names, and even floated Mike McCarthy as a potential fit if Dallas lets him go.
