Kevin Durant makes his return to Brooklyn on Wednesday night when his Suns visit the Nets at the Barclays Center, where many expect a tribute video to be played, commemorating Durant’s tumultuous tenure with the franchise.
Durant himself has said he doesn’t want a video after winning just one playoff series with the star-studded Nets before asking for a trade along with his other fellow stars. Jerry Recco agrees with Durant, and wants to part of Brooklyn honoring a player who didn’t provide many memories other than conflict by the time he left.
“I don’t understand this whole notion of video tributes for guys who did nothing for you,” Jerry said. “Just because he played here, they won one series. Who cares? Move on.
“I understand if a guy played 10 years somewhere and the fanbase loved you and you made your life here. He had a cup of coffee here and walked out on them. Screw him!”
So, if a video is played, Jerry will likely be rolling his eyes, wondering why ownership chooses to commemorate a player that bolted after winning nothing with the team.
“They can stomp on your face and kick you on their way out the door,” Jerry said. “And then we’re going to blow them kisses when they come back?”
