When Breece Hall was at Iowa State, he was the face of the offense, utilized heavily as a runner and receiver to keep pace with other high-scoring teams in the Big 12.

Now with the Jets, Hall will have a much different role, likely in a running back by committee alongside Michael Carter, but Hall says he welcomes the breather he will get now that he won’t be leaned upon heavily to move the chains.

“I'm excited for it, having a big load like that takes a toll on your body,” Hall said. “It's going to be cool to have another counterpart, one or two counterparts to take that load off and share the reps with.

“It’s gonna be different, but I’m willing to do it. It’s gonna be fun to be flexible and do that.”

Hall said at Jets rookie camp that he received a message from Carter immediately after he was taken 36th overall by Gang Green, becoming the first running back taken in the 2022 NFL Draft.

“He texted me as soon as my name got called, and just told me if I had any questions to hit him up,” Hall said. “I’ve had a few conversations with him…I’m already feeling the love.”

The role will be different for hall, who had a Power 5 high 511 carries over his last two seasons at Iowa State, but he still hopes to show his worth at a position he feels has become devalued in recent years.

“At times it was discouraging and kind of frustrating. At times I would be sitting there looking at past running back stats who went in the first round and compared my film to their film and I’m like ‘OK, there’s not too much of a difference here,” Hall said. “I don't see why I'm not held to a higher standard. But it is what it is. I'm blessed to be where I am now.”
