As Aaron Rodgers gets set to make his anticipated Jets debut on Monday night, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Jets had sought out potential backup plans when Rodgers’ NFL future was still up in the air.
Per Rapoport, Gang Green reached out to the Rams about the availability of Matthew Stafford before Rodgers went on his well-known darkness retreat, a time when the future Hall of Famer’s desire to continue playing was hardly concrete.
Those talks between New York and Los Angeles turned out to be brief, as the Rams made it clear Stafford was not going to be moved.
Things worked out for the Jets, as Rodgers emerged from his darkness retreat, after admittedly being leaning 90 percent towards retirement, with a newfound desire to continue his career, and for it to continue in New York.
Now, Rodgers’ career, and Jets history, will begin their anticipated next chapter on Monday night in one of the most hyped games for the organization in recent years.
