Jets reportedly pick up fifth-year options on Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson

The Jets have reportedly picked up the fifth-year options on three core members of the team, including two that will soon be awaiting big contracts.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Gang Green has picked up options on all three first-round picks from the 2022 NFL Draft, including Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Jermaine Johnson.

Per Schefter, those options are $20.1 million for Gardner, $16.8 million for Wilson, and $13.4 million for Johnson.

Moments after Schefters, report, GM Darren Mougey told reporters at his pre-draft press conference that he anticipates picking up the fifth-year options on each of those players before the May 2 deadline.

The 24-year-old Wilson hauled in a career-high seven touchdowns last season, while also setting a career-high with 1,104 receiving yards. The former 10th overall pick is expected to be a cornerstone of the Jets offense for years to come.

On the other side of the ball, Gardner is expected to be a pillar of the defense for the future, though he had what many considered to be a down year in his third NFL season. The former fourth overall pick logged one interception in 15 games and was not named a Pro Bowler for the first time in his career.

Johnson, the 26th overall pick in the 2022 draft, was a Pro Bowler in 2023 but played just two games last season after suffering an Achilles tear in Week 2 against Tennessee.
