The Jets brought back Braxton Berrios after he showed lots of promise in the 2020 season, but now, they have reportedly already moved on.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Gang Green released Berrios on Thursday after the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement on a restructured contract. Berrios, valuable on special teams while contributing at wide receiver two seasons ago, signed a two-year, $12 million deal last offseason.
After hauling in a career-high 46 catches for 431 yards in 2021, Berrios made just 18 catches for 145 yards in 17 games in 2022, logging no touchdowns. His targets, catches, and yardage were all the lowest since his rookie season in 2019.
The move also clears some more cap space to potentially land Aaron Rodgers. On Wednesday, the team converted a chunk of tight end C.J. Uzomah’s salary into a bonus for that same reason.
In other Jets news, the team also reportedly added some needed veteran depth in the secondary, trading a 2024 seventh-round pick for Ravens safety Chuck Clark. The 27-year-old had spent his entire six-year career in Baltimore, and has been a starter for the past four seasons.
