Evan broke the news to Joe live on air that the Mets were going to play a tribute video for Noah Syndergaard for his Citi Field return on Friday, and Joe was having none of it.
“Was he really that good?” Joe said. “Let’s start with that. Number two, he couldn’t wait to leave!
“He gave you this garbage, ‘Oh, I want to be a Met forever,’ and then couldn’t wait to go. who is he kidding? Steve Cohen, intervene! You can’t give a video tribute to Noah Syndergaard! You can’t do that. That’s a bad job.”
Syndergaard certainly had some memorable moments in New York, from helping the 2015 team reach the World Series to throwing behind Chase Utley in 2016 after his slide into second base in the 2015 NLDS broke Ruben Tejada’s leg. He also tossed seven brilliant shutout innings in the 2016 NL Wild Card Game.
But the end of his Mets tenure included Tommy John surgery, a sudden departure to the Angels, and afterward, an apparent trolling of his former team after his teammate Reid Detmers pitched a no-hitter. With all of that in mind, Joe says there should be no video love shown to Syndergaard this weekend.
“When you give me the nonsense that you love it here…and 10 minutes later you sign with the Angels,” Joe said. “What??”
