Joe, Shaun, and Tiki disagree on the Mets/Pete Alonso stalemate

Joe Benigno would love to see Pete Alonso back in Queens next year, but he’s getting ‘very, very concerned’ it’s not going to happen.

“I’m concerned about it. I hear about the Giants now, and the Mets are apparently offering three years for $90 million, and I’m concerned,” Joe told Shaun & Tiki Monday.

“If I'm Pete Alonso, forget whether the Mets should sign him or shouldn't sign him, as some point, aren't you offended?” Shaun asked. “He’s been THE Met!”

The contract was the issue, and Joe isn’t sure, but Tiki is sure that it’s actually an overpay?

“I think it makes sense, because it's an overpay for what his value is,” Tiki said. “On the open market, he’s probably a $25 million a year guy, so if you're you're gonna give him 30 for three years, you’re overpaying him, and if he’s great, then you'll figure it out afterwards, right? Or, he moves into that DH role fully at 35 going on 36, then you put the team in a good position to do right by you.”

“All I’m saying is Uncle Stevie just showed the world he has more money than anyone, and I'm not telling you to pay Pete Alonso a blank check, but if I’m Pete Alonzo, there's gotta be a little personal pride,” Shaun replied. “You have no problem spending money on Soto, and I understand Soto is Soto, but you couldn't just take care of me? I’m supposed to be Mr. Met, and you’ve left me to dangle like I’m some kind of wart on your skin!”

Joe, Evan, and most of the fan base want Alonso back, but there’s one thing for sure: ‘The longer it goes, the more concerned I get.”
