John Sterling returning to broadcast booth for Yankees stretch run, playoffs

John Sterling joined Evan and Tiki on Thursday to announce his return to the WFAN broadcast booth!

The legendary radio voice of the Yankees broke the news on Thursday afternoon that he will be back behind the microphone for the postseason and the final week of the regular season, as fans will hear the familiar voice in October as the Bombers look to claim their 28th World Series title.

"I took a few days and I said yes," Sterling said. "I miss meeting with all the other broadcasters and writers and people behind the scenes. I kind of miss that. And I’ll tell you what I really miss is broadcasting with Suzyn, who is such a fabulous partner and we were together for so long. This will give me a chance at a last hurrah, and work with Suzyn again.

Sterling was on the call for the Yankees’ last five championships, and he will come out of retirement to join Suzyn Waldman on the call starting on Sept. 24 against the Orioles, and will be in the booth through that pivotal series and the final series of the regular season against the Pirates in the Bronx. He will then be on the call through the team's postseason run.

For Sterling, he hopes it will be a chance to give the fans a proper goodbye, and he will be ready to break out his trademark home run calls on the big playoff stage. While he hasn't been on the call on a daily basis since April, he has been locked in on the Yankees season ever since.

"I’ve been watching a lot of games. I watch and listen to every Yankee game and every Mets game, and all the other games," Sterling said. "Sports will always be my life. I love it."
