When the New York Giants decided against picking up Daniel Jones’ fifth-year option, it was an admission that there was skepticism about his potential as a franchise quarterback.

He’s quelled many of those concerns this season.

The fourth-year signal-caller has been nails for the Giants offense this season. As the offense around him that dealt with a bevy of injuries and underperformance, he did his part to drag them along. Now, the unit is heating up as New York prepares for just its second trip to the postseason since winning Super Bowl XLVI and first since 2016.

The enormous impact Jones has had is not lost on anyone in the organization, including those on the other side of the ball, as evidenced by comments from Julian Love on “Tiki and Tierney.”

"Our offensive playbook is ridiculous, the amount that these guys have to retain is unbelievable. And Daniel, like a quarterback should, knows it all,” Love said Tuesday in his weekly appearance on WFAN. “Having guys in and out shows a lot of his mental strength and his patience level and his competitive level. He wants to be winning, this is an important time for him asd it is for a lot of us.

“I already think the world of Daniel, just stuff like that, quarterback in New York City – I give him the ultimate respect.”

Because of that decision not to pick up his fifth-year option, Jones will become a free agent this offseason. He was indispensable to the Giants this season, and making sure he sticks around undoubtedly is priority No. 1 for Joe Schoen this offseason.

Love, who also will be a free agent this offseason, wants to see the Giants bring Jones back.

“He’s a guy who is extremely talented, and he’s a guy who has taken all the blame – even when I didn’t think it was warranted that he should have all of it,” Love said. “I think he’s a perfect guy for this city, he’s not a guy who cares about the flashy stuff, he’s not a guy who cares about the social media part of it, the pride and the excitement of being a quarterback in the NFL, let alone New York City.

“I think he’s the perfect guy for the job and he’s done a great job this year. Obviously, he wants to keep growing and not level off, and I think he will."

This will be Jones' first postseason experience. Continuing this level of play into the most important time of the year will only help boost his earning potential in free agency.
