Keith: How will 'circus' Mets entice free agents to sign with them?

The Mets reached a new low on Wednesday, collapsing in the eighth inning against the Dodgers before reliever Jorge Lopez hurled his glove into the stands, called the Mets "probably the worst team in the whole f----g MLB," and was quickly designated for assignment.

Keith has touched on the sad state of the organization during this frustrating season, but now, he wonders if this losing, and the manner in which it's happening, can impact improving the team via free agency in the years to come.

"This whole thing is broken. It's an absolute circus," Keith said. "No shot in hell [Juan Soto] signs with the Mets. I don't care if it's $800 million or $1 billion.

"Only the Mets can out-Mets the Mets. What the hell was that?"

But the concern could go beyond Soto, as Keith wonders what player could look at what is going on in Queens, and decide that it's an attractive destination for the next chapter of their career.

Ultimately, David Stearns will have to figure out a way to make the Mets an enticing destination.

"You're the president of baseball operations, and this operation is a mess," Keith said. "It's on you to fix it.

"There is not one human being that would choose them brand-wise, teammates-wise."
