Keith: Jazz Chisholm putting other Yankees on notice

Jazz Chisholm went off in his second game as a Yankee, blasting two home runs and turning a double play in his first action at third base in a blowout win over the Phillies on Monday night.

Watching Chisholm has been a breath of fresh air for Keith, who says the new acquisition is putting the rest of the team on notice.

“That’s a guy that fits a bunch of different needs,” Keith said. “Even before Jazz got here, I felt like that shook up the clubhouse. Make these guys have a sense of urgency. Make these guys feel like they’re not all safe.

“Just let them know that another talented player is going to enter the room that can play second base, center field, and third base as you saw tonight. Not so bad. I’ve seen guys who have plenty of experience at third do worse on this team.”

Chisholm’s defensive versatility allows the Yanks to sit struggling players if need be, bringing a new sense of accountability to the clubhouse, and more importantly, a sense of speed, athleticism, and personality.

“We’re trying to win. We need new energy,” Keith said. “And before that man even got here, the clubhouse felt it.

“He can bat leadoff. He can play multiple positions. He can steal bases. He is fun. I think you gotta be a whole weirdo to talk about a guy wearing his hat backwards before he gets on the field.”
