Evan Fournier was booed by Knicks fans in his return to Madison Square Garden on Monday night, leaving Quentin Grimes to express his surprise that the failed free agent signing received such a negative welcome in his first game back in New York since being traded.
Keith had the same reaction as Grimes as he watched Monday’s win over the Pistons.
“Y’all were in there actually booing Evan Fournier? That’s tough,” Keith said. “It’s New York. It’s hard to make it. Just a tough place.”
Fournier’s four-year deal amounted to very little for the Knicks, as he was exiled to the bench early last season and never returned to the rotation amid streaky shooting and poor defensive play. Still, Fournier was never an issue in the locker room or when speaking to the media, and teammates seemed to respect the veteran. So Keith didn’t understand the venom showed towards Fournier in his Garden return.
“What did Evan Fournier do to y’all?” Keith said. “Nothing.”
