Keith: Make no mistake, Yankees still run New York over Mets

As the baseball season draws closer, the Subway Series rivalry is already heating up as the two teams enter the year with the highest collective hype and expectation in recent memory.

But Keith McPherson says it’s important to remember who still runs New York, regardless of where Juan Soto now calls home.

Calling back to Mets fans mulling over a celebratory parade after the team’s NLCS loss compared to the reaction from Yankee fans after losing in the World Series, Keith says the Yankees are still big brother in the Big Apple.

“The more things change, the more they stay the same,” Keith said. “We are not the same. Forever little bro…you know how mad Yankee fans are whenever they lose and don’t bring home the chip?

“The fact that Juan Soto chose to take the most money only means that they have the richest owner in the sport. We can embellish, we can create, we can say they have a dynasty coming and a better future…but these games will start and time will tell.”

Keith says big-time expectations sometimes lead to big-time disappointment, with 2023 being a recent example in Queens. So fans need to be careful with the trash talk just because their team won the Winter Meetings.

“Are we sure we want to continue to poke the bear that is the New York Yankees and Yankee fans,” Keith said. “Who have been doing this for decades?”
