The Knicks missed out on Donovan Mitchell, but according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, New York's initial offer would have brought quite the haul back to Utah.
Per Wojnarowski, when trade talks between the two teams began in July, the Knicks offered RJ Barrett, Obi Toppin, Mitchell Robinson, and three unprotected first-round picks for the three-time All-Star, a seemingly very competitive offer to the one the Jazz and Danny Ainge ultimately accepted from the Cavaliers.
The Jazz rejected that offer, leading to the Knicks extending Robinson, and later extended Barrett after giving Utah a deadline of Monday night to accept a new trade offer that also included Barrett. According to multiple reports, a snag in negotiations came with New York not wanting to include Quentin Grimes in a deal, and Utah countering with Immanuel Quickley plus another unprotected pick.
In the end, Mitchell winds up in Cleveland, while the Knicks have kept their young assets and draft picks that will have to prove themselves in order to lure the next star that may become available.
