Did the Knicks' path to a Donovan Mitchell trade just get a little easier?
According to Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer, the Heat are now "prioritizing" a trade for Kevin Durant instead of Mitchell, which could take New York's presumed biggest competition to grab the three-time All-Star off the table.
Miami was perceived to be well suited to make a strong push for Mitchell, but if they are instead looking to make a splash for Durant, they almost certainly wouldn't have enough left for Mitchell, which could take a bit of the bargaining war aspect out of a trade with the Knicks, though there will likely be other teams looking to move in on Mitchell if he is indeed on the trading block.
Mitchell has long been linked to the Knicks in trade rumors, and they reportedly already begun discussing framework deals for Mitchell. But if the Heat are no longer pushing for Mitchell and driving up the price, New York could potentially come back to the table with a little less on the deal, though Danny Ainge could wait for more suitors since Mitchell is under contract through 2025.
