The Knicks welcomed Jalen Brunson to the organization on Tuesday evening, but there were no reporters in attendance.
That was by design, as the franchise instead hosted the event on MSG with only MSG employees, former Knicks, coaches, and season ticket holders in attendance.
Gio couldn't believe it.
"It's pathetic," Gio said during Wednesday's show. "They are a really rough organization when it comes to stuff like this. And the sad part is that I'm really excited about the basketball part of the team.
"What are you afraid of? There's not anybody out there that was all that upset about the Jalen Brunson signing…did you really do this because you didn't want to answer questions about Donovan Mitchell? How easy is it to dodge those? How many general managers have been in that same exact position where there's trade rumors surrounding a star player in any sport, and they find a way to dodge the questions? Why can't the Knicks do that? It just makes them look silly."
Boomer wasn't as surprised, but still disappointed that the Knicks made this decision, one that he thinks was made by Leon Rose, who has been consistently cryptic and has made very limited time for the media since taking over.
"He saw what happened to Phil Jackson and how he was made into a fool by the media," Boomer said. "Everybody who was longtime Knicks fans who have watched this thing up close and personal over the last 20 years have basically made fun of it.
"I honestly believe he is the guy responsible for this new kind of press protocol. It doesn't surprise me at all. We shouldn't be surprised. I'm disappointed, because I think the press needs to be there."
Whatever the reason, and whoever decided on it, Gio says it was a weak move.
"Deshaun Watson had an introductory press conference in Cleveland and he faced the media again after that," Gio said. "If he can do that…Leon Rose can sit there and answer some questions from Marc Berman and Bruce Beck. I'm sorry. Not that hard."
