Marcus Stroman rips 'dinosaur' Keith Hernandez over Shohei Ohtani jersey number

Earlier this week, the broadcasters in the SNY booth were discussing the oft-mentioned Shohei Ohtani to the Mets possibility, when play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen noted that Ohtani and his broadcast partner, Keith Hernandez, both sport (or sported) jersey No. 17.

Hernandez's No. 17 was retired by the Mets last year, honoring the first captain in franchise history, and when Cohen asked if he would grant Ohtani permission to wear his number if it helped bring the two-way superstar to New York, Hernadez shot it down.

"Don't ask," Hernandez said.

It was not a response former Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman seemed to agree with.

"Ohtani deserves 17 wherever he goes," Stroman tweeted in response to the story. "Imagine losing Ohtani in free agency because some dinosaur wouldn't give his number up. Lmao."

Stroman, a polarizing figure among the Mets fanbase even before he departed to pitch for the Cubs, likely didn't win back any of those fans with his comment.
