With the end of the MLB season, and in turn the beginning of free agency, just days away, Mark Canha gave Mets fans some hope about the uncertain future of Jacob deGrom.
The New York outfielder told Mike Puma of the New York Post that deGrom wants to stay in New York, despite his expected move to opt out of his current deal and become a free agent, noting the ace's friendship with newcomers Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt.
"Jake told me he wants to come back, too, and he really likes it here, too," Canha told Puma. "I think Jake and Max and Chris have a really good friendship they have developed over this year and good professional relationship, too."
DeGrom headlines a plethora of Mets free agents that need addressing, with superstar closer Edwin Diaz being another. When it comes to Diaz and Brandon Nimmo, Canha is less certain about their desires.
"I have no idea where they're at," Canha said. "They both had really good years. I'm sure they want to be compensated for that and deserve it, rightly so. But I don't know where that leads us. "I'd love to have them back."
