Reports: Matt Arnold removes name from consideration for Mets president of baseball ops position

Another potential candidate to become the Mets' president of baseball operations is reportedly no longer an option.

According to multiple reports, Brewers general manager Matt Arnold has withdrawn his name from consideration to join New York's front office, which has been seeking a big name to head its baseball operations. But Arnold now joins Theo Epstein and Billy Beane on the list of names that turned into a dead end for Sandy Alderson and the Mets.

Arnold was promoted to GM in Milwaukee prior to this season after receiving interest from other teams last offseason, including the Angels. The Brewers finished with 95 wins this season but were bounced in the NLDS by the Braves.

Arnold was a second choice from the Brewers front office for the Mets, as their president of baseball operations, David Stearns, was highly regarded by New York but was not granted permission to speak with him for the second straight offseason.
